What this interaction means in plain words
Enoxaparin and Heparin can interact in a way that may be serious. Using them together is sometimes necessary, but it needs a deliberate decision by the prescriber, a plan for monitoring, and clear advice on the warning signs to watch for.
Enoxaparin belongs to Cardiovascular; Heparin belongs to Cardiovascular.
Why it happens
Additive anti-Xa and anti-IIa activity via antithrombin potentiation.
What to do
Avoid overlapping therapeutic doses and use a single heparin product; when switching, start the new agent when the next dose of the old one is due. Monitor for bleeding and platelet counts.
What to ask your pharmacist
