Summary
Eprosartan blocks the AT1 receptor through which angiotensin II exerts its pressor effect. Patients taking an ARB may therefore respond less to infused angiotensin II, so higher doses may be needed to raise blood pressure in vasodilatory shock.
What this interaction means in plain words
Eprosartan and Synthetic human angiotensin ii can affect each other. The combination is often manageable, but it may need a change of dose, a change of timing, or extra checks while both are taken.
Why it happens
Competitive antagonism of AT1 receptors by eprosartan opposes the vasoconstrictor action of exogenous angiotensin II.
What to do
Titrate angiotensin II to the blood pressure response and expect higher dose requirements in patients on ARBs. Monitor mean arterial pressure closely.
What to ask your pharmacist
- Should I take them at different times of day?
- Does the dose of either medicine need to change?
- Is there anything I should avoid, such as alcohol or certain foods, while on both?
