Summary
Fenoprofen can blunt the blood-pressure-lowering effect of eprosartan and hydrochlorothiazide. Combined use with a diuretic and an angiotensin receptor blocker also increases the risk of renal impairment and hyperkalemia, especially in elderly or volume-depleted patients.
What this interaction means in plain words
Eprosartan-hydrochlorothiazide and Fenoprofen can affect each other. The combination is often manageable, but it may need a change of dose, a change of timing, or extra checks while both are taken.
Eprosartan-hydrochlorothiazide belongs to Cardiovascular; Fenoprofen belongs to Musculoskeletal.
Why it happens
NSAID inhibition of renal prostaglandin synthesis causes sodium and water retention and reduced renal perfusion, opposing antihypertensive and diuretic effects.
What to do
Use the lowest effective NSAID dose for the shortest period and maintain hydration. Monitor blood pressure, serum creatinine and potassium.
What to ask your pharmacist
