Summary
Noni juice has a high potassium content, and eprosartan reduces renal potassium excretion, so hyperkalemia is possible, especially in renal impairment. Hydrochlorothiazide lowers potassium and partly offsets this, making the net effect unpredictable.
What this interaction means in plain words
Eprosartan-hydrochlorothiazide and Noni juice can affect each other. The combination is often manageable, but it may need a change of dose, a change of timing, or extra checks while both are taken.
Why it happens
Dietary potassium load combined with angiotensin receptor blockade reducing potassium excretion, partly opposed by thiazide kaliuresis.
What to do
Avoid regular noni juice intake, and monitor serum potassium and renal function if it is consumed.
What to ask your pharmacist
- Should I take them at different times of day?
- Does the dose of either medicine need to change?
- Is there anything I should avoid, such as alcohol or certain foods, while on both?
