Summary
Non-aspirin salicylates can reduce renal prostaglandin synthesis, which may blunt antihypertensive effects and increase the risk of renal impairment and hyperkalemia with an ARB and a diuretic. The effect is generally smaller than with conventional NSAIDs but is more likely at high doses.
What this interaction means in plain words
Eprosartan-hydrochlorothiazide and Salicylates can affect each other. The combination is often manageable, but it may need a change of dose, a change of timing, or extra checks while both are taken.
Why it happens
Prostaglandin inhibition reduces renal perfusion and sodium excretion, adding to ARB and diuretic effects on renal hemodynamics.
What to do
Monitor blood pressure, creatinine and potassium with regular or high-dose salicylate use, and keep the patient well hydrated.
What to ask your pharmacist
- Should I take them at different times of day?
- Does the dose of either medicine need to change?
- Is there anything I should avoid, such as alcohol or certain foods, while on both?
