Escitalopram prolongs the QT interval in a dose-related way, and high-dose salbutamol can cause tachycardia, hypokalemia and QT changes. Together they may raise the risk of arrhythmia, particularly in predisposed patients.

What this interaction means in plain words

Escitalopram and Salbutamol have a small, usually unimportant interaction. Most people can take both; the pharmacist may still mention it so that any unexpected effect is recognised.

Escitalopram belongs to Central Nervous System; Salbutamol belongs to Respiratory.

Evidence level: Low

Why it happens
