Summary
Thiazide diuretics can raise blood glucose and reduce the effect of antidiabetic drugs, so control may worsen when methyclothiazide is added. Competition for renal tubular secretion may also modestly raise metformin exposure.
What this interaction means in plain words
Glipizide-metformin and Methyclothiazide can affect each other. The combination is often manageable, but it may need a change of dose, a change of timing, or extra checks while both are taken.
Why it happens
Thiazides cause hypokalemia and impair insulin secretion and sensitivity, and may compete with metformin for renal cationic tubular secretion.
What to do
Monitor blood glucose and HbA1c after starting the diuretic and adjust antidiabetic therapy as needed. Monitor renal function and potassium periodically.
