Summary

Indapamide is a thiazide-like diuretic, so adding it to a product that already contains hydrochlorothiazide duplicates diuretic therapy. This increases the risk of hyponatremia, hypokalemia, volume depletion and hypotension, though telmisartan partly offsets potassium loss.

What this interaction means in plain words

Hydrochlorothiazide-telmisartan and Indapamide can affect each other. The combination is often manageable, but it may need a change of dose, a change of timing, or extra checks while both are taken.

Hydrochlorothiazide-telmisartan belongs to Cardiovascular; Indapamide belongs to Cardiovascular.

Evidence level: Moderate

Why it happens

Two thiazide-type diuretics inhibit the same sodium-chloride cotransporter, producing additive natriuresis and electrolyte loss.

What to do

Avoid concurrent use of two thiazide-type agents. If needed, monitor sodium, potassium, creatinine and blood pressure closely.

What to ask your pharmacist
