Summary

Beta-agonists and thiazide diuretics both lower serum potassium. Together they may cause additive hypokalemia, which can predispose to arrhythmias, particularly with hypoxia or other QT-prolonging drugs.

What this interaction means in plain words

Hydrochlorothiazide-valsartan and Indacaterol inhaled can affect each other. The combination is often manageable, but it may need a change of dose, a change of timing, or extra checks while both are taken.

Evidence level: Moderate

Why it happens

Beta-2 stimulation drives potassium into cells while the thiazide increases renal potassium loss, producing additive hypokalemia.

What to do

Monitor serum potassium and magnesium, especially at initiation and in patients with cardiac disease. Correct hypokalemia before and during therapy.
