Summary
Growth hormone products can reduce insulin sensitivity and raise blood glucose, particularly at higher doses, which may weaken the glucose-lowering effect of metformin and repaglinide. Growth hormone may also modestly increase CYP-mediated clearance of some drugs, which could lower repaglinide exposure.
What this interaction means in plain words
Lonapegsomatropin and Metformin-repaglinide can affect each other. The combination is often manageable, but it may need a change of dose, a change of timing, or extra checks while both are taken.
Lonapegsomatropin belongs to Endocrine; Metformin-repaglinide belongs to Endocrine.
Why it happens
Pharmacodynamic antagonism through growth hormone-induced insulin resistance, with a possible minor increase in CYP3A4-mediated metabolism of repaglinide.
What to do
Monitor blood glucose and HbA1c after starting or changing the lonapegsomatropin dose, and increase the antidiabetic dose if glycemic control worsens. Reassess the regimen when growth hormone is stopped.
What to ask your pharmacist
