Summary
Meclofenamate can reduce the blood pressure lowering effect of moexipril and increase the risk of renal function decline and hyperkalemia. The risk is greatest in elderly, volume-depleted or renally impaired patients and with diuretics.
What this interaction means in plain words
Meclofenamate and Moexipril can affect each other. The combination is often manageable, but it may need a change of dose, a change of timing, or extra checks while both are taken.
Why it happens
NSAID inhibition of renal prostaglandin synthesis reduces renal blood flow and sodium excretion, opposing ACE inhibitor effects.
What to do
Monitor blood pressure, serum creatinine and potassium within the first weeks and maintain hydration. Use the lowest effective NSAID dose for the shortest time or choose paracetamol.
What to ask your pharmacist
