Summary

Zanubrutinib increases bleeding risk through BTK inhibition of platelet function and cytopenias. SSRIs such as paroxetine impair platelet serotonin uptake and also raise bleeding risk, particularly gastrointestinal bleeding, so the effects may be additive.

What this interaction means in plain words

Paroxetine and Zanubrutinib can affect each other. The combination is often manageable, but it may need a change of dose, a change of timing, or extra checks while both are taken.

Paroxetine belongs to Central Nervous System; Zanubrutinib belongs to Oncology.

Evidence level: Low

Why it happens

Additive impairment of platelet function from BTK inhibition and SSRI-related platelet serotonin depletion.

What to do

Monitor for bruising, bleeding and blood counts, and consider gastroprotection in high-risk patients. Review the need for other antiplatelet or anticoagulant drugs.
