Indications
Mécanisme d'action
Interferes with cell wall mucopeptide synthesis during active multiplication, resulting in bactericidal activity against susceptible microorganisms.

Streptococcal Group A Infections: 2.4 million units IM x1; divided dosage administration into multiple site
Mode de prise habituel
Penicillin antibiotics are taken by mouth or given by injection at regular intervals for a set number of days; the course should be completed even when symptoms improve early.
Grossesse et allaitement
- Grossesse
- Safe Combined procaine penicillin and benzylpenicillin injection. Penicillins have been used widely in pregnancy without evidence of fetal harm, and animal studies show none. Safe to use when indicated.
- Allaitement
- Safe Both components release penicillin G, which passes into milk in low amounts and is not expected to harm the infant. LactMed: acceptable; occasionally diarrhoea or thrush. Breastfeeding can continue.

Contre-indications
- Hypersensitivity; serious and occasionally fatal reactions have been reported
Précautions particulières
- For deep IM administration only; do not administer IV, SC, or IT Do not inject near nerve or artery
- Pseudomembranous colitis reported with antibacterial agents, including penicillin G
- NOT indicated for treatment of venereal diseases, including syphilis, gonorrhea, yaws, bejel, and pinta.
Anyone who has had an allergic reaction to a penicillin or another beta-lactam antibiotic must tell the prescriber before taking one. Severe or persistent diarrhoea during or after a course needs medical advice.
