Indications

Mécanisme d'action

Pramoxine is a topical local anaesthetic (a morpholine ether, chemically distinct from the ester and amide anaesthetics). It stabilises the neuronal membrane by blocking voltage-gated sodium channels. This reversibly inhibits the initiation and conduction of nerve impulses in sensory nerve endings in the skin.

Posologie adulte habituelle (résumé de la notice)

Pain and itching from insect bites, minor burns, sunburn, minor skin irritations, cuts, scrapes, poison ivy/oak/sumac rashes: apply to affected area, topical, not more than 3 to 4 times daily (adults and children 2 years and older)

Résumé de la notice pour la première ligne de posologie uniquement ; les sections complètes sur la posologie figurent dans l'application.

Grossesse et allaitement

Grossesse
Safe Topical anaesthetic in anti-itch and haemorrhoid creams. Little is absorbed through the skin, so fetal exposure is expected to be minimal. Short use on small areas is acceptable; OTC labels: ask a health professional first.
Allaitement
Safe No milk data; skin use gives little absorption. Swallowing it mainly causes nausea and vomiting without serious toxicity (LactMed). If applied to the breast or nipple, wipe it off thoroughly before feeding.
