Résumé
Balsalazide releases mesalamine in the colon, and aceclofenac is an NSAID. Both can affect the kidney, so combined use may add to the risk of renal impairment, particularly in dehydrated patients or those with existing kidney disease. Mesalamine itself rarely causes nephrotoxicity, but it is recognized.
Ce que signifie cette interaction, en termes simples
Aceclofenac and Balsalazide can affect each other. The combination is often manageable, but it may need a change of dose, a change of timing, or extra checks while both are taken.
Aceclofenac belongs to Musculoskeletal; Balsalazide belongs to Gastrointestinal Tract.
Pourquoi elle survient
Additive nephrotoxic potential through NSAID-mediated reduction of renal prostaglandins together with rare mesalamine-associated interstitial nephritis.
Conduite à tenir
Monitor serum creatinine and urine output periodically, especially at the start of therapy and in patients with renal risk factors. Prefer to avoid regular NSAID use in inflammatory bowel disease where possible.
