Résumé
Alvimopan antagonises peripheral mu-opioid receptors, and patients who have taken opioids for more than 7 days can have exaggerated gastrointestinal effects including pain, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. Short-term perioperative opioid use is not expected to be problematic.
