Résumé

Phenytoin substantially reduces cabotegravir concentrations, which may cause loss of virologic response and integrase inhibitor resistance. This applies to oral and long-acting injectable forms.

Cabotegravir and Phenytoin are not normally used together. Taking them at the same time is expected to cause harm or make one of them unsafe, so a different medicine is usually chosen for one of the two.

Phenytoin induces UGT1A1 and UGT1A9, the main enzymes eliminating cabotegravir.

Do not co-administer; select a non-inducing anticonvulsant. Inducer effects can persist for weeks after phenytoin is stopped, so delay cabotegravir accordingly.
