Hogyan hat
Competitive inhibitor of acetylcholine receptors on certain peripheral tissues, including salivary glands; indirectly reduces the rate of salivation by preventing stimulation of these receptors.
Terhesség és szoptatás
- Terhesség
- Unknown Injection: very little crosses the placenta; widely used in anaesthesia, including caesarean section, without fetal heart effects. Oral and inhaled forms: no human data; no birth defects in rats or rabbits. Some UK injection labels: not recommended. Use only if clearly needed.
- Szoptatás
- Safe No milk data; it is poorly absorbed by the infant (quaternary drug). Single doses (e.g. anaesthesia) and inhaled or skin use are unlikely to matter. Long-term oral use may reduce milk supply; watch the infant's weight gain.
Jelentett mellékhatások
- Dry mouth
- Vomiting
- Constipation
- Flushing
- Nasal congestion
- Urinary retention
Ellenjavallatok
- Medical conditions that preclude anticholinergic therapy (e.g., glaucoma, paralytic ileus, unstable cardiovascular status in acute hemorrhage, severe ulcerative colitis, toxic megacolon, myasthenia gravis).
- Concomitant solid oral dosage forms of potassium chloride.
Kinek kell óvatosnak lennie
- Constipation or intestinal pseudo-obstruction: assess for constipation, particularly within 4-5 days of initial dosing or after a dose increase.
- Diarrhea may signal incomplete mechanical intestinal obstruction; if suspected, discontinue and evaluate.
- Heat prostration can occur in high ambient temperature; avoid hot environments.
