Összefoglaló

Arsenic trioxide causes marked QT prolongation and torsades de pointes, and quinine adds to this effect. The combination may result in life-threatening arrhythmias.

Mit jelent ez a kölcsönhatás közérthetően

Arsenic trioxide and Quinine are not normally used together. Taking them at the same time is expected to cause harm or make one of them unsafe, so a different medicine is usually chosen for one of the two.

Arsenic trioxide belongs to Oncology; Quinine belongs to Anti Parasitic.

Bizonyítékszint: Moderate

Miért jön létre

Additive pharmacodynamic QT prolongation through cardiac potassium channel effects.

Teendő

Avoid the combination; use a non-QT-prolonging antimalarial or cramp treatment during arsenic trioxide therapy. If quinine is essential for severe malaria, monitor ECG continuously and keep electrolytes corrected.
