Összefoglaló

Sodium picosulfate is a prodrug activated by colonic bacteria, so antibiotics that disrupt colonic flora may reduce its laxative effect. Parenteral ceftazidime reaches the colon less than oral antibiotics, but poor bowel cleansing before colonoscopy is possible.

Mit jelent ez a kölcsönhatás közérthetően

Ceftazidime and Sodium picosulfate / magnesium oxide / anhydrous citric acid can affect each other. The combination is often manageable, but it may need a change of dose, a change of timing, or extra checks while both are taken.

Bizonyítékszint: Low

Miért jön létre

Antibiotic suppression of colonic bacteria reduces conversion of picosulfate to its active metabolite.

Teendő

Assess bowel preparation adequacy and consider additional or alternative cleansing if the preparation seems inadequate. Where possible, avoid starting antibiotics during the preparation period.
