Gemfibrozil and its glucuronide strongly inhibit CYP2C8, the main enzyme clearing daprodustat, causing a marked rise in daprodustat exposure. This increases the risk of excessive erythropoiesis and thrombotic events, and labeling contraindicates the combination.

Daprodustat and Gemfibrozil are not normally used together. Taking them at the same time is expected to cause harm or make one of them unsafe, so a different medicine is usually chosen for one of the two.
