Per cosa si usa
Come agisce
Converted to 5-aminosalicylic acid (mesalamine) by gastrointestinal flora which is thought to be the therapeutically active component; works topically rather than systemically.
Dose abituale nell'adulto (sintesi del foglio illustrativo)
Ulcerative Colitis Maintenance: 1g PO qDay in 2 divided doses, Take with food.
Gravidanza e allattamento
- Gravidanza
- Safe It releases mesalamine (5-ASA); meta-analyses and cohort studies of mesalamine show no reliable link with birth defects or miscarriage. Rats had developmental effects at 5 to 20 times the human dose. Active ulcerative colitis itself raises pregnancy risks, so continue when needed.
- Allattamento
- Safe Little olsalazine passes into milk, but mesalamine metabolites do (mesalamine relative infant dose 0.1% or less). A few infants had diarrhoea. LactMed: not a reason to stop breastfeeding; watch the infant for diarrhoea. US label: weigh benefits.
Effetti indesiderati segnalati
- Headache
- Diarrhea
- Abdominal pain
- Nausea/vomiting
Controindicazioni
- Patients with known or suspected hypersensitivity to salicylates, aminosalicylates or their metabolites, or excipients
Chi deve prestare attenzione
- Patients with pre-existing skin conditions such as atopic dermatitis and atopic eczema have reported more severe photosensitivity reactions when receiving therapy.
- Cases of nephrolithiasis have been reported with use of mesalamine; active moiety in drug, including stones with 100% mesalamine content.
- advise patients to avoid sun exposure, wear protective clothing, and use a broad-spectrum sunscreen when outdoors
