Sintesi
Abrocitinib reduces platelet counts, mainly in the early weeks of treatment, and its labeling advises against antiplatelet drugs other than low-dose aspirin during the first 3 months. Adding ticagrelor, a potent P2Y12 inhibitor, to thrombocytopenia increases the risk of significant bleeding.
Cosa significa questa interazione in parole semplici
Abrocitinib and Ticagrelor can interact in a way that may be serious. Using them together is sometimes necessary, but it needs a deliberate decision by the prescriber, a plan for monitoring, and clear advice on the warning signs to watch for.
Abrocitinib belongs to Miscellaneous; Ticagrelor belongs to Cardiovascular.
Perché avviene
Additive bleeding risk from ticagrelor platelet inhibition combined with abrocitinib-associated reduction in platelet count.
Cosa fare
Avoid starting abrocitinib in patients who need ticagrelor during the first 3 months, or choose an alternative therapy. If unavoidable, monitor platelet counts and bleeding signs closely.
