Sintesi
Atenolol and timolol are both beta-blockers, so combining them is duplication. This increases bradycardia, hypotension and AV block risk without added benefit.
Cosa significa questa interazione in parole semplici
Atenolol-chlorthalidone and Timolol can interact in a way that may be serious. Using them together is sometimes necessary, but it needs a deliberate decision by the prescriber, a plan for monitoring, and clear advice on the warning signs to watch for.
Atenolol-chlorthalidone belongs to Cardiovascular; Timolol belongs to Cardiovascular.
Perché avviene
Additive beta-adrenergic receptor blockade (therapeutic duplication).
Cosa fare
Avoid combining; use one beta-blocker. If timolol is an eye drop, monitor heart rate as systemic absorption can add to atenolol effects.
