Sintesi
Prolonged or excessive senna use can cause diarrhea and potassium loss. Hypokalemia makes the heart more sensitive to digoxin and raises the risk of arrhythmias and digoxin toxicity.
Cosa significa questa interazione in parole semplici
Digoxin and Senna can affect each other. The combination is often manageable, but it may need a change of dose, a change of timing, or extra checks while both are taken.
Digoxin belongs to Cardiovascular; Senna belongs to Gastrointestinal Tract.
Perché avviene
Laxative-induced gastrointestinal potassium loss produces hypokalemia, which enhances digoxin's cardiac toxicity.
Cosa fare
Avoid prolonged senna use, and monitor serum potassium and magnesium in patients using it regularly. Correct electrolyte deficits and watch for signs of digoxin toxicity.
