Como funciona
The implant secretes recombinant human ciliary neurotrophic factor (rhCNTF). Exogenous CNTF is thought to target Müller glia and trigger signaling that may promote photoreceptor survival. The mechanism is not completely understood.
Dose habitual em adultos (resumo da bula)
Idiopathic macular telangiectasia type 2: one implant per affected eye (200,000 to 440,000 allogeneic RPE cells expressing rhCNTF), single surgical intravitreal implantation by a qualified ophthalmologist
Gravidez e amamentação
- Gravidez
- Unknown An eye implant of cells releasing ciliary neurotrophic factor (CNTF); no data in pregnant women, and not known if it raises CNTF above natural levels. CNTF under the skin caused no birth defects in rats or rabbits, but fewer implantations and live fetuses in rabbits. Use only if clearly needed.
- Amamentação
- Unknown No data on milk or infant effects; no LactMed record. Systemic exposure from the eye implant is not known to rise above natural CNTF levels. US label: weigh benefits of breastfeeding against the mother's need.
Efeitos adversos relatados
- Conjunctival hemorrhage
- Delayed dark adaptation
- Foreign body sensation
- Eye pain
- Suture related complications
- Miosis
Contraindicações
- Active or suspected ocular or periocular infections
- Known hypersensitivity to Endothelial Serum Free Media (Endo-SFM)
Quem deve ter cuidado
- Severe vision loss (3 or more lines, ≥15 ETDRS letters) has occurred; monitor patients
- Infectious endophthalmitis may occur; use aseptic technique, monitor, and remove the implant if it occurs
- Retinal tears and detachment may occur; monitor and treat promptly; remove implant if vitrectomy with complete gas or silicone oil fill is required
