Como funciona
Tipranavir is a non-peptidic HIV-1 protease inhibitor that blocks maturation of viral particles and so inhibits viral replication.
Dose habitual em adultos (resumo da bula)
HIV-1 infection (highly pre-treated, adults and adolescents 12-18 years with BSA ≥ 1.3 m2 or weight ≥ 36 kg): 500 mg tipranavir with 200 mg ritonavir, oral, twice daily; ritonavir doses below 200 mg twice daily should not be used

- Unknown Limited data (no birth defects in 13 1st-trimester registry exposures); reproductive toxicity in animals. EU label: use only if benefit justifies the risk. It weakens estrogen pills; use another contraceptive. Better-studied HIV drugs are preferred in pregnancy.

- Unknown No human milk data; present in rat milk. EU label: women with HIV should not breastfeed (transmission). US guidance supports breastfeeding with sustained viral suppression after counselling; otherwise use formula or donor milk (LactMed).

- Hypersensitivity to the active substance or excipients
- Moderate or severe (Child-Pugh B or C) hepatic impairment
- Rifampicin combination with Aptivus/low dose ritonavir
Quem deve ter cuidado
- Must be given with low dose ritonavir; otherwise tipranavir levels may be insufficient
- Hepatotoxicity: clinical hepatitis and hepatic decompensation, including fatalities; monitor liver tests; discontinue if ASAT/ALAT rise above 10X ULN
- Should not be used in treatment-naive patients
