Resumo
Both drugs can raise serum potassium, and NSAIDs may also blunt the diuretic effect and impair renal function. Hyperkalemia risk is greatest in older patients and those with renal impairment or diabetes.
O que esta interação significa em palavras simples
Amiloride and Meloxicam can interact in a way that may be serious. Using them together is sometimes necessary, but it needs a deliberate decision by the prescriber, a plan for monitoring, and clear advice on the warning signs to watch for.
Amiloride belongs to Cardiovascular; Meloxicam belongs to Musculoskeletal.
Por que acontece
Amiloride blocks renal potassium secretion while NSAIDs reduce renin and aldosterone and renal blood flow, additively impairing potassium excretion.
O que fazer
Avoid the combination in renal impairment. Otherwise monitor serum potassium and creatinine closely, especially at initiation.
