Estrogen-containing contraceptives substantially lower lamotrigine concentrations, which can reduce seizure or mood control. Levels rise during the pill-free week, so toxicity such as dizziness, diplopia and ataxia can occur then. Stopping the contraceptive can cause lamotrigine levels to rise.
