Summary

Intracavernosal or urethral alprostadil can cause local bleeding or bruising at the injection site or urethra. Systemic anticoagulation with argatroban could theoretically increase that bleeding tendency, although systemic exposure to alprostadil by these routes is low.

What this interaction means in plain words

Alprostadil and Argatroban have a small, usually unimportant interaction. Most people can take both; the pharmacist may still mention it so that any unexpected effect is recognised.

Alprostadil belongs to Genitourinary; Argatroban belongs to Cardiovascular.

Evidence level: Low

Why it happens

Additive local bleeding risk from anticoagulation combined with injection or urethral trauma; no significant systemic pharmacodynamic synergy is established.

What to do

Instruct patients to apply firm pressure after intracavernosal injection and report prolonged bleeding or penile hematoma. No dose change is normally required.
