Summary

Corticosteroids may induce CYP3A4 and lower amiodarone levels slightly, while amiodarone may modestly raise corticosteroid exposure. Corticosteroid-induced hypokalemia can also increase the risk of QT-related arrhythmias with amiodarone.

What this interaction means in plain words

Amiodarone and Cortisone have a small, usually unimportant interaction. Most people can take both; the pharmacist may still mention it so that any unexpected effect is recognised.

Evidence level: Low

Why it happens

Possible weak CYP3A4 induction and P-gp inhibition, plus corticosteroid-related potassium loss.

What to do

Monitor serum potassium and ECG during prolonged systemic corticosteroid therapy. No empirical dose change is needed.
