Intravenous calcium can reverse the effects of calcium channel blockers, and it is used as an antidote in amlodipine overdose. Thiazide diuretics also reduce calcium excretion and may add to hypercalcemia.
What this interaction means in plain words
Amlodipine-hydrochlorothiazide-valsartan and Calcium chloride can affect each other. The combination is often manageable, but it may need a change of dose, a change of timing, or extra checks while both are taken.
Why it happens
Raised extracellular calcium antagonizes L-type calcium channel blockade; thiazides decrease renal calcium loss.
What to do
Monitor blood pressure and serum calcium when parenteral calcium is given. Expect a reduced amlodipine effect and adjust therapy if needed.
