Summary

Carvedilol adds beta-blockade and alpha-1 blockade to a regimen that already contains a calcium channel blocker, a thiazide and an ARB. The combination can cause excessive blood pressure reduction, dizziness, and bradycardia, and beta-blockers can mask hypoglycemia and slightly raise potassium. Combined antihypertensive therapy is often used deliberately and is generally manageable.
