Summary
Dopexamine is a beta-2 agonist that shifts potassium into cells, and with hydrochlorothiazide it can worsen hypokalemia. Valsartan only partly offsets this.
What this interaction means in plain words
Amlodipine-hydrochlorothiazide-valsartan and Dopexamine can affect each other. The combination is often manageable, but it may need a change of dose, a change of timing, or extra checks while both are taken.
Why it happens
Beta-2 stimulated cellular potassium uptake adds to thiazide-induced renal potassium loss.
What to do
Monitor serum potassium during dopexamine infusion and replace as needed.
What to ask your pharmacist
- Should I take them at different times of day?
- Does the dose of either medicine need to change?
- Is there anything I should avoid, such as alcohol or certain foods, while on both?
