Summary

Calcium salts can theoretically blunt the effect of calcium channel blockers, and high serum calcium has been reported to reduce their benefit. With oral calcium acetate used as a phosphate binder, the effect is generally small. It matters mainly if hypercalcemia develops.

What this interaction means in plain words

Amlodipine-olmesartan and Calcium acetate have a small, usually unimportant interaction. Most people can take both; the pharmacist may still mention it so that any unexpected effect is recognised.

Amlodipine-olmesartan belongs to Cardiovascular; Calcium acetate belongs to Genitourinary.

Why it happens

Raised extracellular calcium may functionally oppose L-type calcium channel blockade by amlodipine.
