Summary
Celecoxib can reduce the antihypertensive effect of olmesartan and impair renal function, particularly in elderly or volume-depleted patients. Hyperkalemia risk is also increased.
What this interaction means in plain words
Amlodipine-olmesartan and Celecoxib can affect each other. The combination is often manageable, but it may need a change of dose, a change of timing, or extra checks while both are taken.
Amlodipine-olmesartan belongs to Cardiovascular; Celecoxib belongs to Musculoskeletal.
Why it happens
COX-2 inhibition reduces renal prostaglandins, causing sodium retention and reduced glomerular filtration that counteracts ARB effects.
What to do
Monitor blood pressure, serum creatinine and potassium, and ensure adequate hydration. Use the lowest effective celecoxib dose for the shortest duration or choose an alternative analgesic.
