Summary
Human plasma-derived factor X is given to replace deficient factor X in hereditary deficiency. Apixaban inhibits activated factor X, so it can blunt the hemostatic benefit of the replacement product.
What this interaction means in plain words
Apixaban and Factor x human can interact in a way that may be serious. Using them together is sometimes necessary, but it needs a deliberate decision by the prescriber, a plan for monitoring, and clear advice on the warning signs to watch for.
Why it happens
Pharmacodynamic antagonism, as apixaban directly inhibits the factor Xa generated from the infused factor X.
What to do
Avoid combining them. If factor X replacement is needed, hold apixaban and use an alternative anticoagulant if anticoagulation is still required, monitoring clinical response and factor X activity.
