Summary

Adding indapamide to a product that already contains a thiazide duplicates diuretic therapy and increases the risk of hypokalemia, hyponatremia, hypotension and volume depletion. The ARB may blunt potassium loss but also reduces renal compensation.

What this interaction means in plain words

Candesartan-hydrochlorothiazide and Indapamide can affect each other. The combination is often manageable, but it may need a change of dose, a change of timing, or extra checks while both are taken.

Candesartan-hydrochlorothiazide belongs to Cardiovascular; Indapamide belongs to Cardiovascular.

Evidence level: Moderate

Why it happens

Duplicate thiazide-type distal tubule sodium transport inhibition produces additive natriuresis and electrolyte wasting.

What to do

Avoid duplicating thiazide-type diuretics unless it is intended. If given, monitor serum sodium, potassium and creatinine closely.
