Summary
Carbidopa is usually given with levodopa, and levodopa therapy can cause orthostatic hypotension. With an ACE inhibitor, blood pressure lowering may be additive, but carbidopa alone has little hypotensive effect.
What this interaction means in plain words
Carbidopa and Perindopril can affect each other. The combination is often manageable, but it may need a change of dose, a change of timing, or extra checks while both are taken.
Carbidopa belongs to Central Nervous System; Perindopril belongs to Cardiovascular.
Why it happens
Additive hypotension from levodopa-derived dopaminergic vasodilation together with ACE inhibition.
What to do
Monitor blood pressure and orthostatic symptoms when starting or adjusting levodopa/carbidopa. Reduce the perindopril dose if symptomatic hypotension occurs.
What to ask your pharmacist
- Should I take them at different times of day?
- Does the dose of either medicine need to change?
- Is there anything I should avoid, such as alcohol or certain foods, while on both?
