Summary

Voclosporin is a calcineurin inhibitor with dose-related nephrotoxicity, and carboplatin is renally cleared with potential kidney toxicity. Together they may worsen renal function and increase carboplatin exposure and myelosuppression. Voclosporin is also immunosuppressive, adding to infection risk.

What this interaction means in plain words

Carboplatin and Voclosporin can affect each other. The combination is often manageable, but it may need a change of dose, a change of timing, or extra checks while both are taken.

Carboplatin belongs to Oncology; Voclosporin belongs to Miscellaneous.

Evidence level: Moderate

Why it happens

Additive nephrotoxicity, with reduced carboplatin clearance and additive immunosuppression.

What to do

Monitor eGFR and serum creatinine frequently, and base the carboplatin dose on current renal function. Reduce or interrupt voclosporin per its labeling if renal function falls.

What to ask your pharmacist

  • Should I take them at different times of day?
  • Does the dose of either medicine need to change?
  • Is there anything I should avoid, such as alcohol or certain foods, while on both?
