Summary
Both are calcineurin inhibitors, so combining them gives duplicate immunosuppression and additive nephrotoxicity, hyperkalemia and infection risk. Cyclosporine also inhibits CYP3A4 and raises voclosporin exposure.
What this interaction means in plain words
Cyclosporin and Voclosporin are not normally used together. Taking them at the same time is expected to cause harm or make one of them unsafe, so a different medicine is usually chosen for one of the two.
Cyclosporin belongs to Miscellaneous; Voclosporin belongs to Miscellaneous.
Why it happens
Additive calcineurin inhibition with pharmacodynamic overlap, plus cyclosporine-mediated CYP3A4 inhibition that increases voclosporin levels.
What to do
Do not use the two calcineurin inhibitors together. Use only one agent and allow appropriate washout when switching.
