SSRIs deplete platelet serotonin and impair aggregation, and combined with an NSAID this increases the risk of upper gastrointestinal bleeding. Celecoxib has lower GI toxicity than non-selective NSAIDs but the combined risk is still raised.

What this interaction means in plain words

Celecoxib and Escitalopram can affect each other. The combination is often manageable, but it may need a change of dose, a change of timing, or extra checks while both are taken.

Celecoxib belongs to Musculoskeletal; Escitalopram belongs to Central Nervous System.

Evidence level: Moderate

Why it happens

Additive effects on platelet function and gastric mucosal injury.

What to do

Consider a proton pump inhibitor in patients with GI bleeding risk factors, and advise reporting melena or hematemesis. Use the lowest effective celecoxib dose.
