What this interaction means in plain words
Chlorpropamide and Insulin isophane protamine human can affect each other. The combination is often manageable, but it may need a change of dose, a change of timing, or extra checks while both are taken.
Chlorpropamide belongs to Endocrine; Insulin isophane protamine human belongs to Endocrine.
Why it happens
Additive glucose-lowering effect from exogenous insulin plus sulfonylurea-induced endogenous insulin release.
What to do
Monitor blood glucose closely and reduce the insulin or sulfonylurea dose when starting the combination. Educate the patient on recognizing and treating hypoglycemia, and consider a shorter-acting agent in older or renally impaired patients.
