Summary

High-dose glucocorticoids can weaken the growth-promoting effect of growth hormone analogs. Growth hormone also inhibits cortisone-to-cortisol conversion, which may reveal adrenal insufficiency in patients on steroid replacement.

What this interaction means in plain words

Deflazacort and Somatrogon can affect each other. The combination is often manageable, but it may need a change of dose, a change of timing, or extra checks while both are taken.

Deflazacort belongs to Miscellaneous; Somatrogon belongs to Endocrine.

Evidence level: Moderate

Why it happens

Pharmacodynamic antagonism of growth hormone by glucocorticoids and growth hormone inhibition of 11-beta-HSD1.

What to do

Monitor growth and keep the glucocorticoid dose as low as clinically possible. Reassess adrenal replacement needs when somatrogon is initiated.

What to ask your pharmacist
