Using two systemic corticosteroids together duplicates therapy and increases cumulative glucocorticoid effects such as hyperglycemia, infection risk, adrenal suppression and fluid or mood changes. Dexamethasone is a weak CYP3A4 inducer, but the main concern is additive pharmacodynamic effect.

What this interaction means in plain words

Dexamethasone and Triamcinolone can affect each other. The combination is often manageable, but it may need a change of dose, a change of timing, or extra checks while both are taken.

Dexamethasone belongs to Endocrine; Triamcinolone belongs to Endocrine.

Evidence level: Low

Why it happens

Additive glucocorticoid activity, with possible mild CYP3A4 induction by dexamethasone.

What to do

Avoid concurrent corticosteroids unless clearly justified. If both are used, keep the total dose low and monitor glucose and signs of HPA axis suppression.
