Summary
Dichlorphenamide is a carbonic anhydrase inhibitor that increases urinary potassium loss and causes metabolic acidosis. Combined with hydrochlorothiazide, hypokalemia can be more severe, which may cause arrhythmias or weakness.
What this interaction means in plain words
Dichlorphenamide and Fosinopril-hydrochlorothiazide can affect each other. The combination is often manageable, but it may need a change of dose, a change of timing, or extra checks while both are taken.
Dichlorphenamide belongs to Miscellaneous; Fosinopril-hydrochlorothiazide belongs to Cardiovascular.
Why it happens
Additive renal potassium wasting from carbonic anhydrase inhibition and thiazide diuresis.
What to do
Monitor serum potassium and bicarbonate at baseline and periodically, and correct deficits. Consider potassium supplementation if levels fall.
