Summary
Dronabinol oral solution contains substantial ethanol and propylene glycol. In patients taking disulfiram this can provoke a disulfiram-ethanol reaction with flushing, vomiting, palpitations and hypotension.
What this interaction means in plain words
Disulfiram and Dronabinol are not normally used together. Taking them at the same time is expected to cause harm or make one of them unsafe, so a different medicine is usually chosen for one of the two.
Why it happens
Disulfiram inhibits aldehyde dehydrogenase, causing acetaldehyde accumulation from the ethanol in the solution.
What to do
Do not use dronabinol oral solution with disulfiram; allow a washout between them as labeled. Consider dronabinol capsules if appropriate.
