Summary
Dronabinol oral solution contains a large amount of ethanol, and cefotetan can cause disulfiram-like reactions with alcohol. Flushing, nausea, vomiting, tachycardia and hypotension may result.
What this interaction means in plain words
Cefotetan and Dronabinol are not normally used together. Taking them at the same time is expected to cause harm or make one of them unsafe, so a different medicine is usually chosen for one of the two.
Cefotetan belongs to Anti Bacterial; Dronabinol belongs to Central Nervous System.
Why it happens
Cefotetan inhibits aldehyde dehydrogenase, causing acetaldehyde accumulation from the ethanol in the dronabinol solution.
What to do
Do not use dronabinol oral solution with cefotetan or within several days of either drug. Use dronabinol capsules or another antiemetic if cefotetan is needed.
