Summary

Hydrochlorothiazide and indapamide are both thiazide-type diuretics. Combining them gives additive diuresis, with greater risk of hypokalemia, hyponatremia, hypomagnesemia and volume depletion, though enalapril partly offsets potassium loss.

What this interaction means in plain words

Enalapril-hydrochlorothiazide and Indapamide can affect each other. The combination is often manageable, but it may need a change of dose, a change of timing, or extra checks while both are taken.

Enalapril-hydrochlorothiazide belongs to Cardiovascular; Indapamide belongs to Cardiovascular.

Evidence level: Moderate

Why it happens

Duplicate inhibition of the distal tubule sodium-chloride cotransporter leads to additive electrolyte and fluid loss.

What to do

Avoid duplicate thiazide-type therapy where possible. If used together, monitor electrolytes, renal function and blood pressure.
