What this interaction means in plain words

Eribulin and Foscarnet can interact in a way that may be serious. Using them together is sometimes necessary, but it needs a deliberate decision by the prescriber, a plan for monitoring, and clear advice on the warning signs to watch for.

Eribulin belongs to Oncology; Foscarnet belongs to Anti Virals.

Evidence level: Moderate

Why it happens

Additive QT prolongation, worsened by foscarnet-induced electrolyte disturbances.

What to do

Avoid the combination if possible; otherwise obtain a baseline ECG, correct potassium, magnesium and calcium before and during treatment, and monitor the ECG and electrolytes regularly.

What to ask your pharmacist

  • Does the benefit of taking both outweigh the risk in my case?
